Pune to Mumbai tempo traveller fare and how pricing works

Prices are indicative and may vary by route, kilometres, duration, permit charges and vehicle availability. Toll and parking charges may be extra. Contact Shelke Travels for a confirmed quotation.

What the quote includes and excludes

The quote you receive before booking is the amount you pay at the end of the trip, as long as you do not change the route or the vehicle yourself. Tolls, parking and driver allowance are discussed upfront, so there is no argument on the road. If you add a stop in Lonavala, a detour to a hotel or an extra Mumbai sightseeing day, tell us early and we will update the quote in writing.

We do not suggest comparing only the lowest number you find online. Check what is included, how old the vehicle is, whether the driver has experience on the expressway, and. whether the company will actually answer the phone if something changes on the day of travel

Why people book a tempo traveller for the Pune to Mumbai route

The Pune Mumbai road is one of the busiest in Maharashtra. Trains and buses run all day, but they do not work well when you have a group, a lot of luggage, elderly parents or a fixed schedule. A private tempo traveller on rent from Pune to Mumbai solves most of these problems.

You decide the pickup time and the exact pickup point, so no one has to reach a railway station or bus stand first. Your luggage goes in the vehicle with you, not in a separate cab. You can stop for tea at Lonavala or a washroom break at a food plaza whenever the group needs one. And because the vehicle is booked only for your group, the plan stays flexible if a flight is delayed or a function runs late.

Compared with booking multiple cabs, a tempo traveller also keeps the group together. This matters for weddings, where the whole family should arrive at the same time, and for corporate offsites, where the team wants to talk on the way.

Pune to Mumbai route, distance and travel time

Most trips use the Mumbai Pune Expressway. It starts near Kiwale on the Pune side, climbs and descends the Khandala ghat section and ends near Kalamboli, Panvel and the Navi Mumbai side. From there the route continues to Vashi, Sion, Dadar, Andheri or wherever your drop point is.

The road distance is roughly 150 km depending on your exact pickup and drop. On a normal day the drive takes 3 to 4 hours. In Mumbai, travel time can change a lot, because a drop in South Mumbai on a weekday morning is a very different drive from a drop in Panvel at 11 am.

Some practical timing advice from our drivers:

  • Leaving Pune between 5 am and 7 am usually gives the smoothest run into Mumbai before office traffic builds up.
  • Fridays evenings and Sunday evenings are the busiest on the expressway, because of weekend travellers. Add extra time if you must travel then.
  • During monsoon, the ghat section can slow down because of rain and low visibility, so keep a buffer of 30 to 45 minutes for flights or fixed appointments.
  • For airport drops, plan to reach Mumbai at least 4 hours before an international flight and 3 hours before a domestic one.

Our drivers are used to ghat roads, night driving and monsoon conditions, and they follow lane discipline on the expressway, which is both a safety rule and a legal one.

Pickup points in Pune

We pick up from any address in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Popular pickup areas include Karve Nagar, Kothrud, Koregaon Park, Baner, Hinjewadi and Pimpri Chinchwad. If you are in one of these areas, you may also find our local pages useful: tempo traveller on rent in Karve Nagar, tempo traveller on rent in Kothrud and tempo traveller on rent in Koregaon Park.

Our office is at Shop No. 4, Barate Complex, opposite Samrath Ashok Vidya Mandir, Mavale Basti, Hingne Budruk, Karve Nagar, Pune 411052.

Drop points in Mumbai

We drop at hotels, homes, wedding venues, offices and stations across Mumbai. This includes Dadar, Andheri, Bandra, Powai, Thane, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, Panvel and South Mumbai. We also handle group transfers to the Mumbai airport. If you need a smaller vehicle for the airport run, servis a good fit, and for the return journey you can look.

Who books a Pune to Mumbai tempo traveller

A large part of our bookings on this route come from a few types of travellers.

Families and relatives. Weddings, engagement functions, naming ceremonies and festival visits usually mean 10 to 15 people moving together. A tempo traveller keeps the family together and leaves room for gifts and bags.

Corporate teams. Companies in Hinjewadi, Kharadi and Pune city book us for client visits, offsites and training days in Mumbai. A fixed pickup time and a driver who knows the route means the team arrives ready, not tired.

Airport groups. Groups flying out of Mumbai, or arriving there and heading to Pune, often prefer one vehicle over several cabs. This works especially well for foreign guests, NRI families and sports or music teams.

Colleges, schools and societies. Educational tours, society get togethers and mandal trips to Mumbai are common, especially around festivals. For larger student groups we also suggest a 32 seater bus on rent or 40 seater bus on rent in Pune.

Sightseeing and pilgrimage groups. Many customers combine the trip with Siddhivinayak, Haji Ali, Mumbadevi or a city sightseeing day. If you also plan religious trips from Pune.

One way drop, round trip and same day return

There are three common ways to book a tempo traveller from Pune to Mumbai.

One way drop. You travel from Pune to Mumbai and the vehicle returns empty. This is priced as a drop, so you pay a fixed amount instead of paying for the return distance. It works well when your group is staying in Mumbai for a few days.

Round trip. The vehicle stays with you in Mumbai for one or more days and brings you back to Pune. If your plan has local movement in Mumbai, this is usually better value than hiring local cabs separately.

Same day return. Some groups leave Pune early, finish work or sightseeing in Mumbai and return the same night. Our Mumbai 1 day package covers up to 350 km. Because the driver will be on the road for a long day, we advise a realistic schedule and no more than the planned stops.

If your group needs the same vehicle for the other direction, our Mumbai to Pune cab and Pune to Mumbai cab pages are helpful for smaller parties, and our Force Urbania on rent in Mumbai covers premium van options for Mumbai trips.

Mumbai sightseeing with your tempo traveller

If you are staying a day or two in Mumbai, keep the same vehicle and driver. A typical sightseeing day for a group can include Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Siddhivinayak Temple, Haji Ali Dargah, Juhu Beach and the Bandra Worli Sea Link drive. Your driver will not rush you, but he will advise you on parking limits and timings, because Mumbai traffic and parking rules can catch visitors off guard.

For extended trips, ask us about adding a day in Lonavala on the way. It is a popular stop for breakfast, and you can see our Force Urbania on rent in Lonavala for ideas on how groups plan that stop.

Tips for a comfortable Pune to Mumbai trip

  • Start early. A 6 am start from Pune beats a 10 am start almost every day.
  • Share the full address of your Mumbai drop. A hotel name alone can be confusing, because many hotels have more than one entrance.
  • Carry water and light snacks. There are food plazas on the expressway, but timing them around traffic is easier when you are not hungry.
  • Keep fast tag, parking and toll questions with the driver. He handles them all along the route.
  • Confirm the pickup time the evening before, and reconfirm the driver number in the morning.
  • If you have a flight, ask us to plan the pickup with a safety buffer. Do not plan a tight schedule on the Friday evening or Sunday evening.

I had a great experience with Shelke Tours and Travels during our recent family trip. We were a group of 10 including kids and elders, and everything was managed very smoothly. The vehicle (Tata Winger) was in excellent condition – clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for long journeys. The seating was spacious enough for our group, and the overall cleanliness was really impressive throughout the trip. A special mention to the driver( Satish Danane )– he was extremely polite, patient, and professional. His driving skills were excellent, especially on ghat roads and long stretches, which made us feel very safe and relaxed. He was also very cooperative with our stops and ensured everyone, especially kids and elders, was comfortable. Overall, a very reliable and hassle-free service. Highly recommended for family trips. Will definitely choose them again in future!
