The Mumbai to Pune distance by road is about 145 to 150 km, and a cab usually takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The exact time depends on where in Mumbai you are picked up and how busy the city roads are before you reach the expressway.
From South Mumbai and the western suburbs, our drivers take the Eastern Freeway or Sion, cross to Vashi and Panvel, and join the Mumbai Pune Expressway near Kalamboli. From Thane, the usual way is via Airoli or Mumbra to Panvel. From Navi Mumbai you are already close to the expressway, so the trip is shorter, often around 2 to 2.5 hours.
The Missing Link on the Mumbai Pune Expressway opened on 1 May 2026. It is a 13.3 km stretch of tunnels and a high bridge between Khopoli and Kusgaon that skips the slow, winding Khandala ghat. It saves about 6 km and around 25 to 30 minutes on a clear day, with no extra toll. Our drivers use it on every Mumbai to Pune trip unless you ask for a stop in Khandala or Lonavala.
Leave before 7 am or after 8 pm to avoid office traffic inside Mumbai and the evening rush near Hinjewadi and Chandni Chowk in Pune. On Friday evenings and long weekends, add 45 to 60 minutes because traffic builds up near Khalapur and Lonavala. In the monsoon, fog in the ghat area slows things down and our drivers keep a safe speed.
The food plaza at Khalapur is the most popular break, with clean washrooms and quick meals. If you want a longer stop, your driver can take you into Lonavala for chikki, vada pav or a short view of the hills. Just tell us while booking so we plan the time.
