Mumbai Airport (CSMIA) is closing Terminal 1 from 25 October 2026 for redevelopment, and flights that used T1 are moving to Terminal 2 or to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI). Some international flights may also shift to Navi Mumbai from March 2027.

Before you leave Pune, look at the airport code on your ticket: BOM means Mumbai Airport T2 (Andheri / Sahar), NMI means Navi Mumbai Airport near Panvel. The road distance from Pune to Mumbai Airport Terminal 2 is roughly 150 to 160 km, depending on where in Pune you are picked up. Our drivers take the Mumbai Pune Expressway, the fastest and safest route:

Pune → Dehu Road → Lonavala → Khalapur → Panvel → Vashi → Sion → Mumbai Airport T2 (Sahar)

Inside Mumbai, the stretch from Sion to Andheri is where most delays happen, so the time you leave Pune matters more than anything else.

For an international flight, plan 6.5 to 7 hours before, since check in and immigration need around 3 hours on their own. Navi Mumbai International Airport started commercial flights on 25 December 2025 and is about 120 km from Pune, near Ulwe and Panvel. Because you exit the Expressway before entering Mumbai city traffic, it is usually the quicker airport to reach from Pune, often 2.5 to 3 hours door to door.

IndiGo, Akasa Air, Air India Express and other airlines now run many domestic flights from here, and more are shifting as Mumbai T1 shuts. The vehicle (Tata Winger) was in excellent condition – clean, well-maintained, and comfortable for long journeys. The seating was spacious enough for our group, and the overall cleanliness was really impressive throughout the trip.
A special mention to the driver( Satish  Danane )– he was extremely polite, patient, and professional. His driving skills were excellent, especially on ghat roads and long stretches, which made us feel very safe and relaxed. He was also very cooperative with our stops and ensured everyone, especially kids and elders, was comfortable.
