Once every twelve years, the Godavari at Nashik and Trimbakeshwar becomes the centre of one of the largest gatherings of people in the world. The Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela is coming in 2027, and families, societies and bhajan mandals across Pune are already asking the same practical question: how do we travel together and not lose the whole trip to confusion and exhaustion?

That is why Nashik Kumbh Mela group travel needs more planning than a normal Nashik trip. The roads will be busy, parking will be controlled, the last stretch to the ghats will likely be on foot or by shuttle, and the days will be long. The vehicle you choose, and the seating layout inside it, makes a real difference to how the trip feels.

This guide explains the key Kumbh dates, how transport is expected to work, which Force Urbania seating option suits which group, what the trip costs per person, and how to plan the days so everyone, especially elders, stays comfortable. We are Shelke Travels in Karve Nagar, and we have been running pilgrimage and group trips from Pune for more than 30 years.

Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027: Dates You Should Know

The Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha is held once in twelve years, with the Godavari as the sacred river. The main bathing days, called Amrit Snan or Shahi Snan, are currently listed as:

  • 2 August 2027: First Amrit Snan, on Ashadh Somvati Amavasya
  • 31 August 2027: Second Amrit Snan, on Shravan Amavasya
  • 11 September 2027: Third Amrit Snan at Nashik (Ramkund)
  • 12 September 2027: Third Amrit Snan at Trimbakeshwar (Kushavarta Kund)

The Mela itself spans a long period, and different sources list different ceremonial start dates, so please follow the official announcements from the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority as the event gets closer. The three main bathing days will see the biggest crowds. Many families choose a weekday on another date for a calmer darshan and a Godavari dip.

Distances From Pune

  • Pune to Nashik: about 210 km, around 4.5 to 5 hours depending on traffic
  • Pune to Trimbakeshwar: about 240 km, around 5 to 5.5 hours
  • Nashik to Trimbakeshwar: about 28 km, normally 40 minutes, and much longer in Kumbh traffic

Kumbh traffic can add hours, so use these as planning figures only.

How Transport Is Expected to Work During the Kumbh

Authorities have prepared a three tier plan, and the details may change as the dates get closer. The idea is simple. Outer parking areas on the main routes, shuttle buses from those lots, and pedestrian zones around Ramkund and the Trimbakeshwar Temple. On Amrit Snan days, private vehicles are expected to be kept out of the city core, and pilgrims will cover the final distance by shuttle. Traffic from Mumbai is planned to be routed via Igatpuri, so Nashik and Trimbakeshwar flows are separated.

What this means for your group:

  • Your vehicle will probably wait at a parking area, not at the ghat.
  • Everyone will walk, queue and take shuttles together, so staying in one group matters.
  • You will spend time waiting, so a comfortable base in the vehicle, with AC and seats to rest on, is valuable.
  • Early starts, clear meeting points and charged phones become part of the trip plan.

Why Choose a Force Urbania for Kumbh Group Travel

For a long pilgrimage day, comfort is not a luxury, it is part of the plan. An Urbania gives a quieter cabin, push back seats and individual AC vents, so elders can rest between darshan, shuttle rides and waiting. It also keeps your group in one vehicle with one driver and one contact point, which is far simpler than coordinating three or four cars in crowded areas.

Seating is where most groups go wrong, so here is how to choose.

Force Urbania Seating Options Explained

All our layouts are shown in the β€œpassengers + 1 Driver” format. The driver seat is extra and is not counted in the passenger number.

9+1 Driver: Best for Elders, VIPs and Small Families

The most spacious layout, with wider seats and more room around each passenger. It suits a family of six to nine, a group with several senior citizens, or guests who want extra comfort. See our 9 seater Force Urbania for details.

12+1 Driver: A Balanced Choice for Mid Size Groups

A good middle option for 10 to 12 people. There is still some room for bags, and the cost per person drops. Read more on our 12 seater Force Urbania page.

13+1 Driver: The Popular Pilgrimage Layout

A very popular choice for family and temple trips with 11 to 13 passengers. It gives a good balance of seats and luggage space, which matters on a Kumbh trip where everyone carries extra clothes and bags. See our 13 seater Force Urbania page.

16+1 Driver: For Larger Families and Societies

Suitable for 14 to 16 passengers, such as joint families, housing society groups and office teams. Check our 16 seater Force Urbania page for more.

17+1 Driver: The Largest Urbania Layout

The maximum capacity option, and the most economical per head. Keep in mind that luggage space is tighter when the vehicle is full, so it works best for groups who travel light. You can read about this and the full fleet on our Force Urbania on rent in Pune page.

A note on premium layouts: Some Urbania vehicles use a 1×1 recliner arrangement with fewer, larger seats. They are very comfortable but carry fewer people and are priced higher. Ask us if you want this for a VIP or elderly group.

How to Choose the Right Seating Layout

Ask yourself these five questions.

  1. How many people are really travelling? Count children, elders and anyone who may join late.
  2. Who needs the most comfort? If more than a third of the group is senior citizens, choose one size up.
  3. How much luggage will you carry? Kumbh trips need extra: spare clothes, towels, plastic bags for wet clothes, puja items, water, snacks and medicines.
  4. How long will you stay on the road? Over 5 hours each way means leaving a few seats free.
  5. Do you need a base for waiting? A vehicle with space to rest helps during long gaps between darshan and shuttle rides.

A simple rule: never fill every seat. Leave two or three seats free so bags are not on laps and elders can stretch.

Seating Tips for Pilgrims and Elders

  • Seat elders in the front or middle rows, close to the door, so getting in and out is easier.
  • Keep one seat free for a coordinator who can talk to the driver.
  • Put kids with their parents and away from the doors.
  • Keep a separate bag for wet clothes after a holy dip.
  • Keep medicines and water within easy reach, not in the luggage space.
  • Share a seating plan before the trip, so boarding at shuttle points is quick.

When One Urbania Is Not Enough

If your group is larger than 17, you have three good options.

  • Two Urbanias travelling together, which gives the group comfort and a flexible pickup.
  • A tempo traveller, useful for 17 to 26 people. See our tempo traveller on rent in Pune page.
  • A bus for 27 to 50 people. Our bus on rent in Pune page lists the options.

A Simple 2 Day Plan From Pune

This is a framework, not a fixed schedule. Adjust it once official traffic and timing rules are announced.

Day 1: Pune to Nashik

  • Leave Pune around 5:30 to 6:00 AM
  • Breakfast on the way, reach Nashik by late morning
  • Check in, rest and have lunch
  • Visit Panchavati, Ramkund and Kalaram Temple in the late afternoon, following the instructions for shuttles and parking
  • Early dinner and rest

Day 2: Trimbakeshwar and return

  • Leave early for Trimbakeshwar, since queues build quickly
  • Darshan at the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga and a visit to Kushavarta Kund
  • Lunch and a short rest
  • Start the return to Pune by early afternoon, so you are home before late night

A one day trip from Pune is possible on quiet days but very tiring, and we do not recommend it on or near Amrit Snan dates. Some groups add a third day for Shirdi, which is a common pairing with Nashik. See our Force Urbania on rent in Nashik page and our Pune to Shirdi group trip guide for the combined route.

Budget: What a 2 Day Kumbh Trip Costs Per Person

The round trip from Pune to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, with local movement, is roughly 500 km, so a 2 day package at 600 km is the usual planning basis. Using the current rate chart, the base transport cost is about:

  • 9+1 Driver Urbania, 9 people: β‚Ή18,600, or about β‚Ή2,065 per person
  • 12+1 Driver Urbania, 12 people: β‚Ή19,200, or about β‚Ή1,600 per person
  • 13+1 Driver Urbania, 13 people: β‚Ή19,200, or about β‚Ή1,475 per person
  • 16+1 Driver Urbania, 16 people: β‚Ή19,800, or about β‚Ή1,240 per person
  • 17+1 Driver Urbania, 17 people: β‚Ή19,800, or about β‚Ή1,165 per person

Toll, parking, state permit and driver night charges are extra at actuals. Rates can also change during festivals and long weekends, and Kumbh dates may be priced differently, so always get a written quote for your exact date. Stay, food and local shuttle costs are separate.

Please read our cancellation and refund policy and terms and conditions before paying an advance.

When to Book

Kumbh dates fill up months ahead, for both stays and vehicles. If you want one of the main bathing dates in August or September 2027, start planning early, confirm your headcount and contact us well in advance so we can reserve the right layout. For a quieter visit, choose a weekday outside the main bathing days.
