1. ENGINE: The URBANIA vehicle is powered by the Mercedes derived FM 2.6 CR ED (BS-VI) engine. This engine has proven qualities of good acceleration, low noise level and very economical running, in terms of fuel and oil consumption. This is a 4-cylinder, in-line, water cooled, direct injection engine with the overhead camshaft arrangement. This engine outbeats the other diesel engines in its class on account of several unique features. Some of these are:
(i)The FM 2.6 CR ED (BS-VI) Engine fitted with common rail direct injection system. In this system, sensors are provided on the engine and vehicle. These sensors send the signals to ECU (Electronic Control Unit) which controls the fuel delivery and EGR system operation to minimise the air polluting particulate matter in the exhaust gases.
The EGR system comprises of EGR module which is integration of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve and bypass valve. The electrically operated EGR valve ensures fast response and anti-sticking technology. High flow capability, excellent sealing enables it to meet the stringent emission standards.

(ii) This engine has a proven arrangement of dry type cylinder liners, which facilitates rebuilding of the engine to standard size during every overhaul. The pistons and the piston rings are specially designed to ensure minimum wear. The crankshaft is supported on five main bearings and the tolerances are maintained to a very high degree of accuracy, thus ensuring long trouble-free life.
(iii) Piston: Specially designed with cooling to under-crown area of the piston and an improved piston ring pack.
(iv) Cylinder Head: The overhead camshaft comes with special locking arrangement of the valves. Carbide tipped rockers, chrome plated valve flange nut, practically does not require frequently any adjustment of tappet clearance. The camshaft is driven by a duplex chain which ensures positive drive and silent operation. The chain has an automatically operated tensioner arrangement. The cylinder head has adequate water jackets to ensure efficient cooling. The air intake to the engine is filtered through a very large and efficient dry type air cleaner.
(v) The fuel Injection System: The Engine is fitted with Common Rail Direct Injection system. This ensures fuel metered to suit requirement and less variation in fuel delivery at all cylinder, which results in optimal power development
(vi) Lubrication system: The double gear type oil pump has sufficiently large capacity. The oil supply to the engine is made through a very efficient and large capacity oil filter.
(vii) Electricals: A large heavy duty starter ensures efficient cranking. A very efficient 150 amp. alternator is provided ensuring steady charging over a large range of engine speeds and with lower maintenance costs.
(viii) Turbo Charger: Vehicle is fitted with E-VGT (Electronic variable geometry turbo charger) is a next generation of turbo charger. The high efficiency Turbo charger increases the volumetric efficiency of the engine and results in higher output by ensuring complete combustion.
